Privacy Policy

Adventure Together, Inc. ("we", "us", "our") operates the Overlander mobile application and website at www.overlander.app. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. If you have questions, email us at privacy@overlander.app.

1. Data we collect

When you use Overlander, we may collect:

  • Account information — your email address and display name when you register.
  • Location data — your GPS position while the app is active and you have enabled location sharing within a trip. We do not collect location data in the background without your knowledge.
  • Trip data — routes, waypoints, and points of interest you create or save within the app.
  • Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version to help us diagnose bugs.
  • Usage data — anonymised analytics about which features are used, to help us improve the product.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and operate the Overlander service.
  • Share your location with other members of a trip group, but only when you have joined that group and location sharing is active.
  • Improve the app based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns.
  • Send transactional emails (e.g. password reset, trip invitations). We will not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Infrastructure providers — cloud hosting and database providers used to run the service (e.g. Supabase for database storage). These providers are contractually bound to keep your data secure.
  • Analytics providers — anonymised, aggregated usage data only.
  • Law enforcement — where required by applicable law.

4. Mesh network & off-grid data

When operating in mesh mode (device-to-device without internet), location and message data is transmitted directly between devices in your trip group. This data is end-to-end encrypted and is never routed through our servers while in mesh mode. It is synced to our servers once connectivity is restored, in accordance with your trip sharing settings.

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Trip data is retained until you delete it. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Data portability.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@overlander.app. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children

Overlander is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the date of the latest revision.
